GVTC Extends Aid to Community
As COVID-19 cases spike, GVTC sees a continued need for support throughout the communities it serves. That's why we've decided to extend relief efforts through August 31, 2020 which include free WiFi hotspots and increased internet speeds for qualifying customers.
13 Free WiFi Hotspots
GVTC and The GVTC Foundation have collaborated with local organizations to bridge the homework gap for area students during the COVID-19 pandemic. The increasing demand for essential services such as the internet inspired an effort that has helped hundreds currently experiencing hardships.
Hotspots Available
Through August 31, 2020, there are 13 free WiFi hotspots spread across GVTC's service area for community members to utilize until public areas that offer free Internet reopen. These organizations are located throughout Greater San Antonio, the Texas Hill Country, and South Central Texas, and include:
C.R.R.C. of Canyon Lake (Community Resource and Recreation Center), Gonzales Christian Assistance Ministry, Habitat for Safe Seniors, Helping Hands Food Pantry, Hill Country Family Service, The Hope Center, Provisions, GVTC Central Office of Blanco (across from Blanco Elementary School), Champion High School, Fabra Elementary School, Boerne High School, Kendall Elementary School, Boerne Middle School
User Guidelines
While exercising social distancing and other CDC safety guidelines, individuals can access free WiFi in the parking lots of these 13 locations from their vehicles through August 31, 2020.
“It’s important that we remain strong and connected during this pandemic. As GVTC continues to provide essential communications services, we will continue to support one another in our community the best we can. That’s the GVTC way,’ said Ritchie Sorrells, GVTC President & CEO.
Increased Internet Speeds
As more and more people transition to a work from home status, their internet needs invariably change, too. That's why GVTC is temporarily increasing speeds for all eligible fiber optic customers with less than 100 Mbps service and all eligible cable broadband customers with less than 20 Mbps service.
Similar to the hotspots and pledge, this aid will run through August 31, 2020 for qualifying customers. For more information and the latest updates on how GVTC and The GVTC Foundation are stepping up during the COVID-19 pandemic, visit gvtc.com/covid19.
