GVTC Foundation Honors First Responders with Flood Relief Donations
In the wake of the devastating Hill Country flood over the July 4th weekend, The GVTC Foundation rallied the community in support of local first responders who stepped up in the aftermath. The collection was made possible by GVTC employees and customers, as well as a donation from an extremely generous donor.
Every dollar donated was matched by GVTC Communications Donor Matching program. Customers are matched at 100%, while employees are matched at 150%. With the donations, The GVTC Foundation was able to make a significant impact for local volunteer fire departments. The donations and matching totaled $75,000, of which every dollar was distributed to seven departments.
“When disaster struck the Hill Country, our donors didn’t hesitate to act. Thanks to the incredible generosity of those who contributed, we were able to make a lasting impact. This effort reflects what makes the Hill Country so special—neighbors coming together to protect and support one another. We are proud to honor these first responders and deeply grateful to everyone who made this possible,” said Sonia Aguillon, President of The GVTC Foundation.
Honoring First Responders
This year’s GVTC Foundation Game Day 5K honored first responders from these departments, shining a spotlight on the volunteer fire departments that serve as the frontline in emergencies. A spirited tug-of-war contest between local departments added to the day’s celebration. Each team that competed earned an additional $1,000, with the winning department taking home $3,000. Congratulations to Bulverde Spring Branch Emergency Services, who walked away with the jackpot and title.
Following the friendly competition, The GVTC Foundation surprised participating departments with the full distribution of flood relief donations, plus the winnings from the contest and a grant for each department.
- Bergheim $17,500
- Boerne Fire $21,500
- Blanco Fire $7,000
- Bulverde Spring Branch $11,000
- Canyon Lake $8,000
